President Barack Obama asked to get more collaboration for the sharing between private-sector organizations as well as the U.S. government at the White House Cyber security Summit at Stanford today.

The cyber world is sort of the Wild Wild West and to some degree we are asked to be the sheriff,” he told a crowd at the Memorial Auditorium.

To encourage the sharing of data involving the government and industry that is personal instance of cybersecurity threats, Obama signed an Executive Order at the end of his speech. One of those provisions encourages information sharing and analysis organizations (ISAOs), which would act as points of contact for information sharing between your federal government and the sector that is personal.

The Department was added by your order of Homeland Security to the range of government businesses that might be able to approve the sharing of classified information and make sure that proper information is shared between entities.

Obama stated in his speech that neither the federal government nor the private sector take on cyber threats alone and they would need to get together to talk about information as partners.

One huge questionis whether the personal sector is likely to be prepared to provide this information. A lot of companies are still reeling from Edward Snowden’s revelations that they had been handing over customer information to your U.S. government and have since taken measures to also encrypt data from themselves.

Obama acknowledged the process to guard Americans from cyber threats, but during the time that is same their straight to privacy. He pointed out businesses such as Symantec, Intel and PG&E as upgrading and using the government’s Cybersecurity that is brand new Framework but likened the process of technological development to building a cathedral.

“That cathedral will not just be about technology but about the values we have embedded in this system. It will be about privacy and security and about connection. A magnificent cathedral and we’re all going to be a part of that,” he said.
