Google Bans Flash Pre Roll Video Ads

Flash is nearing the end as Google will start banning it on September 1.

Google has just announced its halt on playing Flash on Chome to “improve performance for users.” Considering that Chrome is the most popular browser and controls 63% of the market, it is bad news for Adobe’s Flash.

The decision was made last June in beta and is now finally implemented to all users. Flash-based pre roll video ads and embedded videos can still be played through right-click controls. It is up to the user whether to click the “Run this plugin” button or not.

A lot of Web companies have been calling out a halt on Flash. Big names like Firefox and Amazon had announced a stop on Flash. The former announced it last July while the latter announced the halt of Flash ads on the Advertising Platform or on Amazon.com effective September 1.

This issue boils down from the recent malware infection of Yahoo’s Flash-powered ads that harmed millions of Windows users. It is due to the old codes used by Adobe, making it vulnerable to hackers and viruses.

Until now, Adobe has not yet comment on the issue.
